With the conclusion of the General Lok Sabha election in India there comes out of the box results which were not predicted by the exit polls. With the conclusion of the elections Election commission of India came forward and gave the important and very factual numbers. It says that India has made a world record with total of 642 million voters who voted in these elections.This number i.e. 642 million is a record in itself as it is:<ul><li>1.5 times greater than the total voters of the G7 countries.</li><li>2.5 times greater than the voters of the all 27 countries of the European Union.</li></ul>It is the largest festival of the democracy and democracy provides option to individuals to elect their representative and get better governance. So in this festival of democracy everyone has their right to vote and choice to elect.<ul><li>There comes an important conclusion from the results of the general lok Sabha elections that there is no single party which&nbsp;gets complete majority and due to this ,collision government is about to form.</li></ul>During this time we have witnessed a record break of NOTA (None of the above). In Madhya Pradesh’s Indore constituency NOTA is the runner up with more than 200000 votes in favour of NOTA. Why does this happened?The congress candidate Mr. Akshya kanti Bam withdrew his candidature and joined BJP and date for filling the nomination for the new candidate had already gone, so with no choice congress in its campaign asked the voters to vote for NOTA.From where does NOTA Came?In September 2013 Supreme Court directed Election commission of India to introduce option of NOTA for the voters in order to protect the secrecy of the voters’ choice.

The Historic decision of August 2019 by the Union government to bifurcate the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories i.e. the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir with legislature and the union territory of Ladakh without legislature was welcomed by locals of the Ladakh area. It was one of their demand to grant the status of Union territory.Currently in the UT cadre, the leaders of Ladakh are found to be the least politically represented in the current bureaucratic setup, even the locals are more concerned about the new legislation that permits outsiders to start business in the region and settle in the area.According to locals if they have Statehood, then their government will benefit them by making policies that are favorable both economically and culturally for Ladakh.Now there are four basic demands of the Ladakh people:·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Statehood for Ladakh·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Include Ladakh under the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution&nbsp;·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Separate public service commission for Ladakh·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Two parliamentary seats for Ladakh. ﻿Demography and potential of Ladakh:Now as per the data from the 2011 census, the population of Ladakh is 274,289 and the density of the population is 4.6/.Ladakh has a very high potential for natural resources like Borax, Marble of good quality even limestone of cement grade, and many more. Due to their abundance, these are mined and mining causes damage.Analysis of demands:People are demanding for inclusion of Ladakh in the 6th schedule, this schedule talks about the administration in tribal areas of the northeast states of Assam, Tripura, Meghalaya, and Mizoram. It provides limited autonomy to tribal regions so that they can conserve their rights, culture, and ethnicity.Now these states are provided with autonomous District councils that takes the important decisions of their areas of their own.The government's stance at this point is very clear that they will not provide 6th schedule status to Ladakh as if it is approved, it will attract protests for inclusion in the same 6th schedule by other northeastern states.

Analysis of the Ladakh issue, Betryal or Benefit ?

<ul><li>On April 17, 1999, the BJP coalition government led by PM Sh. Atal Bihari Vajpayee collapsed as it failed to win the confidence vote in the lower house and that instance is due to a single vote.</li><li>In the 2004 Karnataka assembly elections, Janta Dal’s candidate lost to Congress’s candidate just by one vote.</li><li>In the 2008 elections in Rajasthan Congress’s C P Joshi got 62,215 votes while BJP’s Kalyan Singh Chouhan got 62,216 votes.&nbsp;</li></ul>Political philosophy on the significance of voters:<ul><li>Dr. B.R. Ambedakr was always in favor of voting and its process. He is one of the main leaders and philosophers who supported the right to vote.</li><li>According to him democracy always prevails when people have the power to vote and choose the right person for the system.</li><li>Dr. Ambedkar said, “One person is equal to one vote and one vote is equal to one value.</li><li>As Mahatma Gandhi once said, “I understand democracy as something that gives the weak the same chance as the strong”.</li></ul><h2>South Indian Governments are more voter-centric:</h2><ul><li>South Indian states, where the governments are more voter-centric due to the cultural ethnicity and linguistic culture of South Indian states. Likewise linguistic minority groups in Tamil Nadu hills tribal people speak Badaga, Toda, and Koda language, Kodava in Kodagu district of Karnataka, and many more. So, here regional parties work and come into power.</li><li>As per the data by NSO, in 2019, South Indian states fell in the moderate to rich category in GDP per capita income. Also, Kerala has the least number of multidimensional poor people as per a report by Niti Aayog and it is 0.71%.</li><li>The policy implementation of the state governments and local level government for the betterment of their people e.g. Kerala is the 1st Indian state to complete a 35000 km network of National optic fibre network project and connecting gram panchayats and also remote areas. They claim the speed is up to 100mbps.</li><li>More than 2 million Below the poverty line families were given free connectivity for better education and availing government schemes. They have provided the connectivity to single person also.</li></ul>The basic reason for these governments to be more voter-centric is political competition. Another is the literacy rate of the population. Here people choose their governments based on their performance. So every government in South Indian states works for every individual not only the state government but also the local self-governments.

Voters-their Significance & Value of a Single vote in Democracy

The electoral bonds scheme: The scheme was introduced in 2017 by the then Finance Minister Sh. Arun Jaitley. These were introduced through The Finance Bill 2017-18 and were classified as a Money Bill, Thus exempted from the compulsory requirement of being passed in the Upper House ( Rajya Sabha). The Finance Minister also proposed to amend the RBI Act for the issue of electoral bonds and their political funding.It allowed industries, corporate groups, and individuals to fund and donate money to any political party. No other bank other than SBI can issue these bonds.</li><li>Even they are not available in all the branches of the State Bank of India but only in authorized branches.</li><li>These are available for purchase for a period of 10 days in January, April, July, and October each</li><li>The additional 30-day period in general election year.</li></ul>What is the minimum value to purchase/issue the electoral bond?Any value in the multiples of ₹1000, ₹10000, ₹100000, ₹1000000, ₹10000000.
